Bournemouth Council is investing £1million over 12 months smartening up Bournemouth’s streets including enhanced street cleansing and anti litter initiatives.

As part of the 'Smart Streets' campaign, tough anti litter messages are appearing on Bournemouth’s iconic Yellow Buses during the summer.

“Love Bournemouth, Loathe Litter” and other Smart Streets banners have gone on the sides of 20 buses operating throughout Bournemouth during June and July.

The aim is to encourage as many visitors as well as residents to dispose of their rubbish and waste in a responsible way. For further info, go to:

Designated Public Place Order for Charminster

Public safety in Charminster will be improved following the adoption of a Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) by Bournemouth Borough Council.

The police will now have the power to require the surrender of alcohol and containers from those drinking within the designated area and those who fail to comply will be liable to arrest and a fine.

The DPPO zone will cover: Stokewood Road, St Luke's Road, Heron Court Road, Maxwell Road, St Alban's Avenue, Howard Road, St Leonard's Road, Beechey Road, Wellington Road, Wimborne Road and all areas in between including the cemetery and Winton recreation ground.

Councillor David Smith, Cabinet Member for Communities, says: “We recently consulted with residents in Charminster about the proposed new order and received overwhelming support to take action. Tackling anti-social behaviour and in particular alcohol related crime and disorder is a key priority for the Council and we hope that with the introduction of the DPPO it will help to improve public safety in the area.”
